Falling Forward…

The cooler temperatures have me craving comfort and warmth, and as I sit here curled up on my sofa surveying the room I realize it’s looking a little tired; or more appropriately, I’m tired of taking in this view. It’s time to Fall Forward!

If you’re like me, you relish change. Whether it’s a vacation destination, a new wardrobe, hairstyle, or workout routine; I like to keep things fresh and exciting, and this includes my home. The changes I make don’t have to be monumental, they simply need to breathe new life into my life, and my abode.  Think about it, we change our wardrobe seasonally, so why not our home?

As a designer I can’t help but fall for the rich colors, textures and patterns of Fall.  I just can’t resist indulging in the decadence of the season.

This rich bordeaux, velvet sofa caught my eye in Nuevos Estilo Magazine. I just want to sink into that sofa and drink in this space. I absolutely adore the refined elegance of this classic modern home. Although it has a museum-like quality, you don’t get a sense of unease; this is a space where you can kick up your feet (shoes removed, of course) and relax. I would love to pop in a rich emerald green for a seasonal change. This room is full of exquisite accessories and the palette is quite neutral so you have flexibility to change the scenery.

The simplest edits would be to swap out the table skirts and change up the pillows.

As an art gallery changes its artistic presentation with each new artist, think about rotating your own art collection at home. I love the wallpaper effect this gallery creates. It adds a whimsical focal point, introducing color outside of the blue palette, and ties the entire room together beautifully…

Excitement is in the details! Dramatic indigo walls framed out in a decorative tape & studs add depth and zing to this dining room…

Swapping out pillows is a fun and effective way to enjoy seasonal fabrics and it gives your home an instant face lift. Be sure to invest in good quality fillers that keep your pillows plump and lively. Anything less cheapens the look, and in turn relays this feeling throughout the space. Upholstered occasional chairs, benches & stools also add another dimension of texture, color & pattern…
